Scale-up of electrical capacitance tomography sensor for imaging pharmaceutical fluidised beds and validation by computational fluid dynamics
Scaling-up is an important step from academic research to real industrial applications. This paper reports for the first time how to deal with the scale-up issues in electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) sensors and presents experimental results from a production-scale fluidised bed (1 meter in diameter) in GEA in Switzerland (contact details available). This work has contributed to a large-scale circulating fluidised-bed combustor optimised by ECT, resulting in the improvement of combustion efficiency from 70-90% (with a normal pulverised coal combustor) to 90-98% (Chinese Academy of Sciences, contact details available).
