Additional information

The introduction of quieter power trains (hybrid power trains and electric drives) could make secondary noise sources dominant. Shock absorber transient noise has been a challenging vehicle noise and vibration concern which makes up a significant part of the component warranty claims of over a billion pounds. In collaboration with SPAX, a novel quality control test was developed to identify knocking noise as an alternative to current methods used in industry. The approach was validated by successfully identifying “noisy” shock absorbers from a mix of production line and field-returned products. The method helped modify the design of a particular model.
