Algorithms and pipeline architectures for 2-D FFT and FFT-like transforms
The FFT lies at the heart of telecommunications and signal processing applications. Based on Benaissa's early work (Signal Processing, June 1991, 257–272), this paper was the first to present new 2-D algorithms and architectures implementing the 2-D FFT directly that alleviates the use of memory banks and data transposition of the conventional row-column technique. Compared to existing work, the proposed architectures can achieve a 50% reduction in complex multipliers usage and savings of up to 66% of register and 50% of adder requirements. This work was a collaboration between Leeds, Newcastle, and Sheffield supported by EPSRC (GR/S98160/02), HWCommunications, &RINICOM.
