Additional information

The deterioration of water quality in potable water distribution systems is extremely complex, involving many interacting physical, chemical and biological processes that are time dependent: hence water age is used as a convenient surrogate. This paper presents a novel modelling framework addressing some of the limitations of this surrogate, by capturing the distribution of water ages at all points in a water distribution system rather than the flow weighted mean age. The framework shows great promise and the validation studies necessary for industry uptake are currently in progress.
