This paper describes a component-based model for steel connections, suitable for use in structural fire engineering practice. The significant advance of this approach is that it permits a realistic representation of complex joint behaviour within a model of the whole structure. The method provides designers with the capability to model progressive collapse scenarios efficiently and effectively as part of performance-based fire safety design of buildings.
