Double-weighted statement

The first monograph on the oeuvre of Tehching Hsieh: a seminal but hitherto marginalized figure in contemporary art history. I planned, researched, wrote and assembled the book over a five-year period (2005-09) in close correspondence with the artist whose reclusiveness, mother tongue and long durational performances presented significant critical challenges. Across eight research periods in NYC, I mined Hsieh’s private archive, edited an extensive interview with him, co-devised a documentary strategy for these unpublished works, wrote a 40,000-word contextual analysis, and commissioned, edited and integrated five contributor responses. In 2011-12 I managed adaptation and translation liaison for a distinct Chinese edition.
