Additional information

The paper presents a numerical analysis of a novel leading edge shielding concept applicable to power generation gas turbines. The new concept replaces existing shower head cooling at the leading edges of turbine nozzle guide vanes and saves up to 10% of the required cooling air. The concept has the potential to increase cycle efficiency significantly above levels currently achieved by existing power generation gas turbines. The concept also lowers manufacturing and maintenance costs. The technology has been internationally patented (JP2009277746) and led to a £981k research project funded by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
