Additional information
This work is new because it the first Transmission Electron Microscopy of in situ measurements of ion impacts on nanoscale gold nanorods and the model described can be transferred for a variety of new materials. This has implications for the rate radiation damage to materials depending on their physical shape and construction. Although this is a new paper published within the last couple of months the authors have presented this work at European Materials Research Society Conference in May and following the conference have been requested to submit a further paper to the Journal of Nuclear Instruments and Methods B.
