"C.M. Bowra’s ‘Overestimation’ of Pasternak and the Genesis of Doctor Zhivago" and "Pasternak’s Letters to C.M. Bowra (1945-1956)"
This publication is presented as one item because it was conceived as a single piece of work, combining an analytical essay with accompanying evidence (printed in sequence in the volume in which they appeared). The first part, “C.M. Bowra’s ‘Overestimation’ of Pasternak and the Genesis of Doctor Zhivago” (pp.42-69), analyses Bowra’s contribution to Pasternak’s literary reputation and its significance for the genesis of Doctor Zhivago, while the second part, “Pasternak’s Letters to C.M. Bowra (1945-1956)” (pp.70-87), publishes for the first time the archival materials and evidence upon which the preceding essay is based.
