Double-weighted statement

This book is the culmination of 20 years of pioneering research and the major output of a three-year ESRC Fellowship awarded to the author (2006-2009). It presents an entirely new approach to impoliteness (even compared with the author’s own earlier work on the subject). Prof. Janet Holmes (Victoria University of Wellington, NZ), a highly respected sociolinguist, describes it as “stimulating and scholarly ... a significant contribution to the growing research area of rudeness and impoliteness discourse”.
