Grimley 2010 is the output of over 14 years of archival research and analytical study. Reading facility was required in Danish, German, Swedish, Norwegian and French, in addition to a diverse range of formal analytical techniques. A preliminary draft of parts of Chapter 6 (‘Counterpoints’)—amounting to c. 25% of the text in this chapter—was published in an article returned for the RAE 2008. The remaining material in the book is new and has not previously been reviewed.
