The paper proposes the first novel approach to solve the meta-analysis problem when SEM data are missing in some clinical trial reports. The methods proposed in this paper are implemented in statistics software (StatsDirect). They are also implemented in Excel as an Excel plugin and deployed by meta-analyses in City Hospital, Nottingham. Up to November 2013 the paper had been downloaded 3,682 times from the BMC website.
