Additional information

This paper was from the research collaboration with Harbin Engineering University (HRBEU) and China Ship Scientific Research Center (CSSRC) (Research Professor, CSSRC). “The major contribution of this paper is the introduction of the novel multi-agent based distributed control architecture into Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) system. The hierarchical Petri nets based mission management and control method makes the AUV handle various discrete events smoothly. The paper contributes to the future development of AUV systems” (Reviewer reports from Editor-in-Chief, Ocean Engineering). The developed work continues through another PhD research project at HRBEU, funded by CSSRC (2013-2017) (Research Professor, CSSRC).
