Additional information

The exhibition comprised framed photographs behind glass, varying from post card sized miniatures to large scale works up to 6 x 7 feet. There was a broad range of format from images made with disposable and unbranded cameras with plastic lenses, to panoramic and medium format cameras. Images were a mixture of colour and black and white and were selected from two long-term on-going projects. Each exhibition was slightly reconfigured to meet the specific demands of each venue. The first group of images follows my two children from birth, documenting their growing psychological awareness of the world around them- especially the natural world. Existential in nature, it remains ‘work in progress’. The second group is based on the landscape of the British Countryside, in particular the South Downs and Constable Country in and around Suffolk. The landscapes are heavily inspired by the work of John Constable, in particular his direct observation oil sketches of landscapes familiar to him since childhood.

At the Anthony Reynolds Gallery there were also three works from another series (Zoo) made 2004- 2007 of captive zoo animals in enclosures. The exhibition at Guernsey Photography Festival involved a juxtaposition of new family work (made 2006-2012) and old family work (1990- 1996). Together the range of subject matter, scale, format, framing and placement of photographic works in all three shows was edited and curated to give new insights into individual pieces displayed and into my ongoing photographic practice.

Photographs produced between 2006- 2010 were exhibited at ‘New Work’ Anthony Reynolds Gallery, London (2011), ‘New Work’ La Fabrica, Madrid (2011), ‘Ray’s a Laugh/New Work’ Guernsey Photography Festival, (2012)
