The paper details an analytical solution to predict the low frequency sound field in small rooms, such as recording and broadcasting studios where sound quality is paramount. The predictions demonstrated that the Schroeder modal cut-off frequency, which is fundamental to the design of statistical or geometrical acoustic models, may not be accurate for rooms with moderate to high levels of damping, suggesting that some revisions to current acoustic models may be required. The co-author received a Newman Student Award Medal from the Acoustical Society of America for this work.
