Additional information
The strength of irradiation-induced movements of surface atoms was discovered as a novel “probe” to assess locally the activity of functional ceria nanoparticles in an international 3-way collaboration. This opens the route for prediction of catalytic activity of individual facets/particles, rather than averaged over thousands of facets/particles. Main results are now included in an international review (DOI: 10.1039/c2ee22310d).
