Double-weighted statement

The monograph of 588 pages is a fully interdisciplinary work which presents original and poorly known primary sources in Arabic and other languages in new or corrected editions, together with translations into English, in order to develop an extensive argument about ancient ideas of social and economic life in the period of the Roman empire. The overall theses are complex and the book ranges widely from antiquity to the Medieval Islamic world to tell the story of why the central text studied survives in Arabic translation.
