Rencontres onomastiques au carrefour de l'Eubée et de la Béotie
The cultural influences between the regions of Boiotia in Central Greece and the island of Euboia are investigated in this article through analysis of regional onomastic features. The detailed study of quantitative and linguistic data enables the identification of the mechanisms lying behind the formation, between the Archaic and Imperial periods, of shared onomastic repertoires in the two regions, which each display distinctive local features. Besides its contribution to linguistic, dialect, religious and mythological networks, this study demonstrates the federative role played locally by the Euboic gulf, notably between the cities of Chalcis, Eretria, Tanagra and Oropos.
