This is the first journal paper resulting from a larger collaboration built with an Italian group at University of Brescia. The collaboration has also led to two student exchanges (Italy to Sheffield) and a conference paper (XIV Congresso Nazionale Di Chimica Dell'Ambiente E Dei Beni Culturali). Further bids and exchanges will take place and the new material developed and characterised during this collaboration has good commercial potential for low-energy waste immobilisation, both nuclear and non-nuclear, so has considerable societal significance.
