Additional information

This paper is the result of a collaboration between SHU and Strathclyde University and reports on the mechanisms of erosion-corrosion of CrN/NbN multilayer coatings deposited by HIPIMS. Electrochemical polarisation techniques, in conjunction with electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), were used to show the benefits (leading to modified erosion-corrosion mechanisms) of using the relatively novel HIPIMS technique over other conventional PVD methods in tribo-corrosive environments. This paper is expected to open a new frontier of applications for HIPIMS deposited CrN/NbN and other coatings in the field of tribo/ erosion-corrosion.
