This work advances modular robotics. Developed as part of an FP7 project (ICT 216342) on modular robotics a new open-source platform has been developed to afford self-assembling to an established and widely used robotic platform. The paper was invited for submission to the journal based on work presented at the leading swarm intelligence conference (ANTS 2012) and was one of 6 papers selected from 82.
