Research supported through Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship (Grant: PIEF-GA-2008-220336), forming basis of advanced computational framework for detailed analysis of unreinforced masonry structures under extreme loading. Proposed 3D mesoscale modelling approach, validated against several experimental tests, addresses accurately for the first time both the in-plane and out-of-plane response of masonry components. Work has been catalyst for collaborative research projects, including project with University of Trieste (Prof. C.Amadio: amadio@units.it) investigating robustness of buildings with masonry infill, and EU RFCS project (BASIS: RFS-PR-12055) considering influence of masonry panels on steel buildings under blast loading (Dr B.Burgan: B.Burgan@steel-sci.com).
