The paper presents a highly accurate fault location methodology and subsequent defect diagnosis on a sample of medium voltage EPR cable. Diagnosis of the cause of failure made use of a novel technique not previously applied to this type of sample – that of computer aided X-ray tomography. The study concerns the integrity of electricity transmission network in nuclear power stations. It will lead to the implementation of future monitoring strategies on similar families of cables, maintaining the integrity of the network by allowing remedial action to be taken before a failure occurs.
