Additional information

The author led the analysis and interpretation of the magnetic field data described in sections 6 and 7, working with his PhD student (Savani) to identify the features of a small-scale transient in in-situ spacecraft observations. The author's expertise in Corotating Interaction Regions created by the collision of solar wind streams enabled the work to proceed to its main, important conclusion. The author was actively involved in the drafting of these sections and refinement of the whole manuscript from the outset to the paper’s subsequent publication.
