Double-weighted statement

This 130,000-word monograph emerges from over 7 years' research (presenting 50% of Sweet's research time in the REF period) and demonstrates three key hallmarks for doubleweight: (i) Depth of source base (including many unpublished travel journals and correspondence from 20+ archives as well as printed sources) and sophisticated analysis of these sources and the extensive secondary literature; (ii) The sustaining of multiple arguments: while the focus is on the Grand Tour, the argument is interweaved with nuanced discussions of popular imagination, circulation of knowledge, architecture; (iii) Articulation of a new framework for reading the evidence and interpreting the Grand Tour.
