Additional information

This paper presents results of system-modelling using frequency domain techniques to study neural influences on the heart’s electrical stability in 33 patients with psychological disorders (anxiety). This paper established a collaboration resulting in four international conference papers (EMBC 2011, SBP 2010 and 2012, HRS 2012) and a 1-year NIHR-funded fellowship post at Oxford (Martina DiSimplicio). The work expanded to St Thomas Hospital with a 2-yr NHS-funded research fellow (Nick Child) co-supervised by Hanson, and was recently filmed for a BBC documentary “Heart vs. Mind” screened 10/07/2012. A follow-on study of 50 further patients commenced at St Thomas in October 2012.
