Additional information

The experimental research work in this paper emphasises the fatigue of swelling of unsaturated expansive soils with an increasing number of wet-dry cycles. The work enhances understanding of the influence of climate change on the swell-shrink behaviour of clays and aids forecasting heave and settlement in unsaturated soils due to suction changes. The paper has been widely recognised and figures in a range of publications, among others by Prof. Carlos Santamarina, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, on analysis of energy geo-storage problems, Prof. Jayantha Kodikera, Monash University, Australia, on cyclic deformation in clays, and in the field of geosynthetics (icevirtuallibrary.com/content/article/10.1680/gein.2009.16.5.393).
