Additional information

This paper describes the research undertaken to prove the concept of a unique shape memory plastic-cementitious material system named LatconX. The objective of the work is to increase the durability of concrete structures by introducing an inbuilt mechanism for closing cracks. Originally funded from a Royal Society Brian Mercer award, on-going research on this technique is being supported by a firm of Civil Engineering Contractors (Martyn.Evans@AlunGriffiths.co.uk) and is a fundamental element of the £1.67M EPSRC project 'Materials for Life' (EP/K026631/1).
