This paper describes a systematic method, based on micromechanical principles, for predicting the viscosity of self-compacting concrete from the measured viscosity of the paste alone. The research is a product of Laing O’Rourke’s sponsorship of Professor Karihaloo’s chair and has been disseminated at the ECCM international conference in Paris. It has also been the subject of seminars at MIT and Istanbul Technical University.
