Additional information

This paper is the culmination of the application of novel metrology to orthopaedics. It is based on clinical/industrial case studies relating to orthopaedic implants. The studies make use of sophisticated reconstruction of surfaces as well as the application of the plasticity index in understanding joint wear. The importance, relevance and timeliness of the research is evidenced the fact the work has led to a large collaborative research project with the London Implant Retrieval Centre (UCL). Of note is the fact that the techniques pioneered have been recently presented by invitation at the: Orthopaedic Research UK Meetings in 2011 and 2012
