Additional information

This paper introduces the importance of a holistic perspective for bioenergy, taking into account socio-economic as well as technical and environmental information. It provides policy relevant information on the relative merits of different technology options for bioenergy (an EPSRC challenge area key to meeting UK government renewable energy targets). It has informed discussions with the UK government (DECC, CCC & EA) and had international policy impact (referenced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). The approach developed here forms the basis of the recently funded £4.5 M EPSRC SUPERGEN bioenergy hub, led by Thornley.
