When human statements have a temporal element, they can be viewed as partial information about exact time stamps of events. A collection of such statements can be viewed as a database of known temporal facts. This paper shows how, given such a database, any temporal statement may be retrieved as “known true”, “known untrue” or “not known”. The technique is to add the contradiction of the fact to the database, and test for consistency. This work continues the work of the group on interval- and point-based time. It is a foundation for later work on incomplete temporal knowledge.
