Additional information

A new mathematical cell-deformation model was developed which facilitates the detection of cancer cells. This work is significant because it shows, for the first time, that prostate cancer cells are mechanically compromised compared to normal prostate cells. This work is important as it could have a major impact on the advancement of cancer therapies and in new cancer drug design through targeting the mechanical weakness of cancer cells. This paper has led to a new EPSRC proposal and an invitation to join two French National Research Agency (ANR) projects to model cancer cell and tumour biomechanics and structure.
