Additional information

This work presents a novel methodology for searching for handwritten text phases within a scanned document. The paradigm-shift was to address the issue of low volume training data, hitherto unexplored, which is particularly pertinent when applied to historical documents, where ground-truthed training data is time consuming to construct. The work formed a central contribution to an EU-funded international project (DocExplore) for the exploration of historical documents which continues to generate considerable interest within this community, to which this software was released as an open source system and is currently used in several archives (Contact: Cressida.Williams@canterbury-cathedral.org) and by researchers across Europe.
