Hughes is an MRC Scientist who runs a laboratory for the Medical Research Council based in the Randall Division. The lab studies skeletal muscle formation, growth and ageing under a Programme Grant with work primarily focussed on zebrafish and mice. This work synergies with, and benefits from, the strong muscle research environment at KCL. The Hughes group's neuromuscular studies are affiliated with the MRC Centre for Developmental Neurobiology, and a growing interest in cardiac muscle development is supported by affiliation with the BHF Centre at KCL.
