Additional information

This paper pioneers use of natural zeolite, a low cost, high functionality material, to adsorb heavy metals from acid mine drainage (AMD). Work has resulted in further PhD support from EPSRC and industry (Harsco/Tata Steel). Pilot scale-up studies are planned and commercial development of the technology is being discussed with NERC and industry (Harsco/Tarmac/Rocktron). Paper has been widely read across the minerals processing and environmental engineering sectors and has provoked international interest from Zambian Government leading to a further Commonwealth sponsored PhD project (seconded lecturer from University of Zambia, Department of Metallurgy)
