Design of a 2dof vibrational energy harvesting device
Significance of output:
The idea of harvesting mechanical energy from the ambient (wind, waves, human movement) is very appealing since the cost of energy and the carbon footprint are constantly increasing. Device that harvest mechanical energy from vibrating structures are narrowband and tend to detune. In this paper a novel energy harvesting device is proposed which shows increased bandwidth as well as reduced size and weight in comparison with previous devices. These are outstanding features which may bring to the commercialisation of functional energy harvesters. The work was done in collaboration with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
