This 330-page book on the working men, women, and children of the Industrial Revolution is the outcome of seven years’ research in over thirty archives, part-funded by an AHRC research fellowship. Using little-known and sometimes entirely new sources, it reframes historical understanding of a pivotal moment in modern British history. It has been widely reviewed, for example by The New Yorker, The Guardian and The Times.
