Additional information

Interdisciplinary collaboration involving bioengineers and medical imagers; Van Doormaal was my PhD student. Provided first technically demanding experimental measurements of left ventricular cardiac ejection patterns in mice. Coupled these measurements with computational modeling to show that the received wisdom regarding blood flow patterns in the mouse aorta is incorrect and must be revised. This finding forces a re-interpretation of the role of biomechanics in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, specifically impacting hundreds of studies based on observations of arterial lesions in the mouse aortic arch. Related poster won magna cum laude award at the ESMRMB Congress 2009
