Additional information

This work was done with Satake Corporation Japan using their state of the art peritec debraning machine optimised to separate bran and starch from cereals. This paper was an initial investigation into extracting valuable antioxidants from oats for use as prebiotic. This work provided a novel method to extract different components within the cereal which are sometimes lost in milling and can be utilised for many applications. This ground breaking work was further developed by the group and 4 new papers were published. The work also influenced the studies of research groups in Spain, France, Ireland, China, UK and Greece.
