<21> This groundbreaking and controversial paper reflects on longstanding and enduring issues in CSCW fieldwork (and more widely): the problem of research samples, specifically any requirement concerning the size of samples and the important and related issue of how to generalize from fieldwork research. The paper adopts an ethnomethodological stance to dismiss any simple and simplistic call for ‘more examples’ and reflects on what exactly is involved in generalization. Published in ECSCW, a leading international conference that is instrumental in defining the agenda of CSCW research.
