Additional information

This paper results from EPSRC funded research work (EP/F061307/1) on developing a methodology for the monitoring and characterisation of flame stability. The novelty of the work lies in the use of integrated digital imaging and spectral analysis techniques for quantifying and characterising flame stability and burner conditions, which provides power plant operators with an effective means for online monitoring and subsequent optimisation of furnace operation. The paper is included in the ‘Highlights of 2011-2012’ (only 37 papers) published in IOP Measurement Science and Technology, which are chosen on the basis of referee endorsement, novelty and scientific impact (http://iopscience.iop.org/0957-0233/page/Highlights%20of%202011-2012).
