Series of short films for the experimental musician Maps & Diagrams
In 2011, the experimental electronic musician Maps and Diagrams approached Daniel Hopkins to see if he'd be interested in making videos to coincide with the release of two new albums on Ian Hawgood's Nomadic Kids Republic label, based in Japan. As a result of this request Daniel Hopkins has produced four videos for the Maps and Diagrams songs: Images, Distant Thoughts / Circa / One Kind of Blue and Found Objects. The songs feature on both the Lights Will Call On You and The Town Beneath The Sea albums on Nomadic Kids Republic. Each visual segment takes inspiration from the music and track titles which, combined with Daniel's cinematic interpretation assembles both the music and visual form into four unified but also contrasting pieces of work.
The Films have been screened at the following venues:
Visioneca Festival of Experimental Film and new media, Isle of Wight, UK
NoGloss Film Festival 2012, Leeds, UK.
17 Days Exhibition, Atrium Gallery, Richmond Center for Visual Arts at Western Michigan University, USA.
