Publishing the postcolonial : Anglophone West African and Caribbean writing in the UK, 1948-1968
This monograph relies on extensive archival research in the US and in Britain undertaken over a number of years, addressing primary source material (manuscript, editorial, publishing, personal and institutional documents and correspondence in publishing archives) which had not previously been worked on when the book first appeared. It marries some of the disciplinary concerns of postcolonial literary studies with those of book history to explore the question of how value is generated and how it mutates across educational/literary publishing fields, and also how value is framed cross-culturally. Some of its findings will make a significant impact on both disciplines.
