<29> The significance of the paper lies in its novel and early status for papers in the field. Of particular significance to researchers, game designers and instructional designers using virtual, game and simulation environments, the conceptual model provides a method and framework for implementing effective learning. The model has been used to design learning outcomes and curricula in a number of EU projects, including GALA (FP7-IST ICT, Technology Enhanced Learning, €5.6M: 31 partners in Europe including NATO) and MASELTOV (FP7-ICT-7 No. 288587,€3.2M: 13 EU partners) where it has been implemented by the Serious Games Institute, Coventry and other partners.
