Additional information

This paper used a range of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning TEM (STEM) techniques to identify the origins of doping-dependent nanofaceting observed on vapour-liquid-solid (VLS) grown Si nanowires. The new data allowded us to develop a new theory of faceting on nanoscale curved surfaces which is important in controlling the properties of these nanomaterials. The student, Fang Li, was jointly supervised with Prof David Cockayne (Oxford Materials) and Dr Christian Lang (Sharp Laboratories of Europe). The work led to a renewal of the industrial top-up funding for a follow-on student worth £22k.
