Double-weighted statement

Modernist Futures re-envisions the relationship between modernism and contemporary fiction, extending the historical coordinates for understanding formal innovation in late-twentieth- and twenty-first-century writing. In an authoritative reassessment of the expansive archive of theoretical and historical scholarship on modern and postmodern culture, the book presents a reinvigorated paradigm of modernism for framing political and ethical dynamics in the novel today. It creates dialogues between six very different writers, moving across their extensive oeuvres to rethink artistic inheritance. In its synthesis of different scales of commentary, the book combines a retheorization of literary history with close readings of narrative technique.
