Double-weighted statement

Platonic Coleridge examines Coleridge's philosophical writing over an extended period, charting for the first time the way his early studies as a Unitarian gave rise to a new approach to the history of philosophy, and a return ad fontes to Plato's dialogues. The research drew on the entirety of the 36-volume Collected Coleridge to overturn the prevalent view that Coleridge's philosophy is inadequate or founded on plagiarism; it also required learning German to a sufficient level to study untranslated sources. A considerable range of multi-lingual scholarship fed the examination of Platonic metaphysics in Coleridge's neglected and exceptionally difficult Opus Maximum.
