Additional information

With much interest in materials that mimic materials found in nature (Biomimetics), we reported specifically on reflectors for use in display technology and on simple production methods to allow cost saving in mass production. This paper reports a new approach using self-organising reactive mesogens to create a wavelength tailored reflector. Funded by HP Labs, this work was part of HP Labs’ core plastic electronics technology, in collaboration several international Labs, including HP Labs Palo Alto. This work is the basis of a patent application (PCT/US2012/057644), and is also being investigated for several industrial collaborations, and funding opportunities.
