Additional information

The paper describes CFD technique application for determination of the thermal state of a Lynx overhead conductor, used in power distribution networks, operating under steady and transient load and weather conditions. This work was a project funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (TR/4EE/6/1/22088: Active Management of Distributed Generators based on Component Thermal Properties) in collaboration with Areva T&D, Imass, PB Power and Scottish Power Electricity Networks. The project received the 2010 IET Innovation Award in Power and Energy Category. Results presented are used by the above companies in their R&D activities (Dave Roberts, formerly Scottish Power, dave.roberts@eatechnology.com)
